Reflections

“As in water face answers to face, so the heart of a man to man.”  Proverbs 27:19

“Consider the water.” He asked me recently.  The reflection upon the surface almost perfectly mirroring the picturesque landscape and lush grass above it.

The other shore was out of my grasp, only the reflection could reach, though when I tried to grasp it I ended up with only a handful of water.

God’s promises, His words to us are often like that illusive reflection.  It shows us the reality, but it is not the reality itself.  It is subject to the weather, a cloudy day, a rainstorm hides it from view much like sorrows and doubt hide the hope of God’s word from us.  Yet, the substance of the promise isn’t the reflection, but the water itself.

We may loose sight of the picture, but the water is still there.  In my hand I could see no landscape, but I had the water.  His Word remains.

Is it not the water that brings life to the shore, that sustains the tree, which is the true promise.  The tangible is dependent upon the Giver of Life.  The Word carries with is a promise, but the Word itself is the Life of the promise.

“Very soon the tangible will replace the reflection.”  The promises of God are going to be made manifest in our lives.  No longer will we watch from the other side, but we will be there in the reality of the future He promised to us.

So be encouraged today, that despite the ripples that ruffle your promises at times, despite the storm clouds that alter the view and the rain that can make it disappear altogether, His Word is true and His promises will be a reality.

“But his delight is in the law of YHWH; and in his law does he meditate day and night.  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsover he does shall prosper.”  Psalms 1:2-3
